Creaghs in Arizona
Our friend Molly, who happens to be a city planner for the City of Phoenix, stopped by Megan and Matt's place. We asked her if it was legal to have a goat within the city limits, but she couldn't answer us definatively. Needless to say, even though it is a bit odd, the neighbor's goat wasn't causing any problems and seemed pretty cool. Hmm, maybe we should get a goat instead of a dog...chevre anyone?
After a couple days of hiking, painting and relaxing we headed south to Green Valley. Green Valley has become quite the retirement metropolis. After telling a few of my co-workers about where we were, I found out that quite a few locals from Boulder Junction head down there for the winter.
Green Valley was a chance to relax, play cribbage with Grandma and Aunt Debby, climb a mountain, sit by the pool and eat a few great meals. We went to Madera Canyon for a hike that was supposed to be a leisurely. After we got to the saddle in what seemed to be no time, I decided that we should go for the peak which was another 3 miles up. As it turned out, we didn't have enough water and lacked sunscreen but after we got wind of a group of 14 from the Quail Creek Retirement Village ahead of us, there was no turning back. We made it with only minor dehydrations, minor sunburns and burning thighs.
After a few great days we headed back up to Phoenix, returned to Four Peaks for dinner and made it to the airport by 4:45 am the next morning. By the time the sun set in Boulder Junction, we were unpacking our bags and putting away our groceries. It was a great way to spend a week before our busy summer season.

Don't Put the Skis Away Yet
Luckily for us the maintenance staff hasn't gotten around to taking down the ski trail maps yet. We have received 2 wet inches of snow so far and the local weatherman is saying that we will get 5-7 inches tonight. If that is true I am going to ski to work one more day.
When I got back from my photography walk I noticed these three guys staring at me through the window. Even though there was a wall and a window between the deer and me, they didn't seem comfortable with that.
I won't post it, but the next picture is just a couple white tails high stepping it as far from me as possible.

Two Sides to Every Story
We went paddling yesterday. Just for kicks, we wanted to see if there would be any differences in our experience:
Brooke:
After a great trip to the nicest gas station restroom ever in
Jay:
THE PLAN: We made plans for a paddling day on the Flambeau a few weeks ago when it was 70 degrees and sunny. Friday Rick called to make sure that we were still game. With a forecast that called for a high of 48 and eighty percent chance of rain and/or thunderstorms I confirmed our desire to paddle. Brooke didn’t want to spend all night packing on her birthday so I tried my best to get everything ready Thursday evening and Friday afternoon. I think I was successful.

U-hauls and BBQ's
We haven't looked back since driving East. I thought that we had a lot of stuff since we had to rent a U-haul, but I was corrected. Some of the folks that I work with told me that they would give anything to go back to the days when moving meant just renting a U-haul. In a matter of a few weeks we have managed to unpack most of our boxes, lose two feet of snow and sample most of the fried food options in the fifteen minute vicinity.
It would take a bubba-ean effort to list all the fried food options in the restaurants in the northwoods, but I don't want to waste the web space. When Drew(my boss) and I were in Madison, he made the comment that he didn't care where we ate, just that he would like "tasty food that isn't fried" because that doesn't exist up here. I like fried food as much as the next guy, but sometimes it doesn't seem necessary to fry pizza.
In an attempt to eat something not fried, we hosted what may be the first block party ever on our street. We had plans for dancing black bears, tricycle riders, ferris wheels, gravitrons, but after much neighborhood debate decided to keep it simple for the first rendition. It was nice that everyone on the street was able to attend. Brooke, Brandt and I (everyone) started off our block party by walking to the Post Office and getting our mail. We proceeded to have a nice little BBQ in the "I can't believe it is this nice in March" weather.
Brandt was nice enough to arrange to have the street barricaded off. You might be asking yourself why we would need to have it blocked off at all?
Well, you never know who might try to drive through. Even though they don't live on the block, we let Drew and Kristi join us as they were former residents of the street.
It was unseasonably warm again today. 72 degrees and sunny. I was lucky enough to clean the outside windows and we were called to an emergency BBQ at Drew and Kristi's house.
